Prof Fred Wamunyokoli has research experience spanning over 20 years in the areas of molecular mechanisms of oesophageal, ovarian and cervical cancer, molecular parasitology, virology, HIV. He has undertaken a John Forgaty Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health in the USA.
A graduate in the field of Medical Biochemistry, specializing in the area of Molecular Medicine he has successfully carried out research in the above thematic areas as well as successfully supervised and graduated numerous postgraduate students undertaking research in the above areas.
He is a member of several national, continental and international professional and scientific organizations.
As a fulltime lecturer in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, he has been involved in the development and review of various curricula as well as participated in the development of Modular courses in Health Informatics, Data Analytics and GIS for Decision making in Health. Prof Wamunyokoli has held various administrative positions in the university including being the Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and the founding Director of the School of Open, Distance and e-Learning of JKUAT.
Prof Wamunyokoli is a member of the National Technical Committee on Modelling of COVID-19 of Kenya. He been the lead in health systems strengthening and capacity building in a number of USAID funded Projects under Palladium Kenya: Health Informatics Governance and Data Analytics (HIGDA) and County Measurement and Learning Program II (CMLAP II), KeHMIS among others.
He has also been very influential consultant in FIND Diagnostic funded projects: Optimization of diagnostic service networks for the health of women and children in Kenya project, Assessing the use of digital tools to strengthen COVID-19 screening, testing, contact tracing and patient management in Kenya project, Digital End-to-End among others.
He has over 50 publications in peer reviewed journals
