COVID-19 & TB simultaneous screening

The JKUAT-DHARC conducted a FIND funded study through the support of the Ministry of Health; COVID-19 & TB simultaneous screening, COVID-19 testing using Ag-RDTs and linkage to care in four selected Counties within Kenya via CHV for a period of three months. Utilization of digital tools to enhance COVID-19 and TB testing and linkage to care among Boda Boda riders in the Nairobi metropolis

The JKUAT-DHARC, funded by the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) and supported by the Ministry of Health and Nairobi Metropolis County governments researchers conducted the study for a period of four months starting October 2021. The study, covering Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado counties, used digital solutions in conjunction with antigen detecting rapid diagnostic tests (Ag-RDTs) to support decentralized COVID-19 and TB testing and linkage to care of Boda Boda riders in the Nairobi Metropolis.

Antimicrobial Resistance in 10 Kenyan Counties

The misapplication of antimicrobials in both human medicine and food production poses a serious risk to every nation, especially given the scarcity of new antimicrobial agents in development. Shedding light on this issue in the context of Kenya, researchers at JKUAT-DHARC conducted a comprehensive assessment across 28 facilities in 10 counties. Their goal was to evaluate the diagnostic capacity for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), examine antibiotic use, and assess existing antimicrobial stewardship practices.

This endeavor, funded by the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) and the Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership (GARDP), with support from the Ministry of Health, targeted a spectrum of health facilities (private, public, and faith-based) in Nairobi, Kajiado, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Laikipia, Isiolo, Vihiga, Nandi, and Kericho.

Assessing the Use of Digital Tools for COVID-19 Management in Machakos and Mombasa counties

The Ministry of Health in partnership with the Machakos and Mombasa County governments, Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) and DHARC-JKUAT and development partners developed and deployed digital tools to enhance the COVID-19 management cascade at all levels. These digital tools were expected to ensure fast, efficient and timely communication of test results and other medical data.
